MICHAEL JACKSON's vocal on concert rehearsal movie THIS IS IT has been enhanced by old recordings of his songs.
The film, which features footage of the King Of Pop practising for his ill-fated comeback shows, has taken more than $200 million (£125 million) at the worldwide box office.

Music experts claim Jackson's strong singing is down to clever editing, with former BBC senior studio manager Andrew Rose insisting footage of the Thriller icon belting out Earth Song is fake.

He says the performance vocal has been lifted from a demo available on YouTube.com, adding: "Throughout the film sudden changes in vocal timbre suggest the dropping in of older recordings which may have required significant digital manipulation to fit the new live backing."

And now bosses at Sony Pictures, who produced the picture, admit they were forced to use old Jackson performances to aid the sound quality of the footage.
Spokesman Jim Kennedy says, "In order to fulfil Michael's vision for his fans and his children... the filmmakers had to incorporate some pre-existing materials, including vocals, where the rehearsal footage audio was incomplete and/or inaudible.
"In addition, usage of master recordings (such as Earth Song) was credited in the end titles."

This is the first I have heard of this. Have you guys seen anything about it?

I have not see it, but what is the big deal?

No deal, big or small. Just sharing a story.

The part of Earth Song where he was on the cherry picker was dubbed. You could plainly see that he wasnt even singing those same words. There were other portions of Earth Song that he was singing live but not all of it but I'm not certain. And of course Thriller. But he sang live the majority of the time. 1 more exception may be They Dont Care About Us. There was a portion there that I thought was dubbed. What made it difficult is that they kept showing clips from different days. They used his live vocal spread over different clips which also why on occasion he seemed off sync. Michael had stated that he wanted to sing live and he was told it was ok to lip sync if he needed but for the most part he wanted to sing live.

I dont know why people try to make a big deal out of it. They just try to find ways to bring him down. He always mixes live and recorded vocal. He comes in and out as he needs to when he is doing heavy dancing. Case in point Billie Jean. He was singing live on Billie Jean and when he was into the dance moves you notice he stops singing. He did that in alot of places through out the movie. If you look back on all his performances its the same way.

It was a "last minute" movie. It was not filmed for public consumption. I would not have expected to watch something of home movie quality. Through the magic editing, it would be expected if there was a short coming in the production value, sound quality, etc. it would be corrected.

I had not heard this reported as any kind of "news" and was inquiring is anyone else had seen such a story. No more, no less.

I just did not understand why "Andrew Rose" was INSISTING that parts of earth song was "fake". What's in it for him? Just to point it out?? MJ can mix whatever he wants. It's all him singing anyways. :)

I agree! Some bunghole trying to pick at Michael. Or maybe it's a shot at AEG.. If that's the case go right ahead and keep writing your articles. Anyone who knew anything about Michael knows he does live/dub TONS of artists do it.. Beyonce and Britney do it. Anyone with a rigorous dance routine does it. Janet Jackson does it too but no one ever says anything about that.
